Please help us pick the winner for the 2019 Smyth County Overall Area Beautification Award! Seven Smyth County businesses, organizations, or churches have been selected as the Area Beautification Award winners for their district by our committee. Now, we need YOU to help pick the winner overall!

The 2019 Overall Winner will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner Meeting on November 7, 2019.

The Area Beautification Contest is a project of the Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, organized in conjunction with the Smyth County Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors select judges for each of the magisterial districts and contests are held on a monthly basis, April-October. One winner is selected each month and represents one of the magisterial districts. Each of the district winners are eligible for the Overall Area Beautification Award. The Overall winner is selected through an open polling process each fall. Atkins Elementary School – Atkins District

Atkins Elementary School has added an brand new obstacle course style playground. They also extended the chain link fence all around the play area and added disc golf. The flower beds in front of the school were also updated.

Motel 6 – Chilhowie District

An old motel in Chilhowie was recently completely renovated inside and out and now is a Motel 6! This gives the people coming to the area another option in accommodations that is right off the interstate.

Destiny’s Valley Country Store – North Fork District

2018 Small Business Boot Camp Winner Destiny Huffman purchased the old Dickey’s store in Rich Valley and has remodeled it and given it new life as Valley Country Store!

Park Place Drive In – Park District

Park Place Drive-in was built in 1954 and operated until 1983 when it went dark and was rebuilt bigger and better in 2000 and still operates today. Last year, it underwent an expansion providing more room for games inside and more ice cream flavors. The front exterior and the porch were redone. The results are beautiful!

Sur 81 – Royal Oak District

Turkey Pen Hollow, Inc. completely renovated the old Apple Tree Restaurant building. It is now home to a new restaurant, Sur 81. The new exterior and interior help add beauty to this are right off of the interstate.

The Farmhouse Market LLC – Rye Valley District

The Waller Family of Sugar Grove, Virginia opened a farmhouse store in the old Sugar Grove Diner building. This took an immense amount of time and work, but the result is a stunningly beautiful store with food, local farm goodies, and much more! The Farmhouse Market LLC just celebrated their one year anniversary.

Saltville Lions Club – Saltville District

The Saltville – Rich Valley Lions Club work to improve Saltville and Rich Valley through their many projects. They also added some beauty in Saltville by placing hanging floral baskets throughout downtown.
