PRESS RELEASE: MAYBERRY TRIBUTE ARTISTS ADDED TO “MAYBERRY COMES TO MARION”

It’s big, Andy – BIG!

Five of Mayberry’s most famous citizens are joining an all-star cast for Marion’s upcoming Vintage Market and “Mayberry Comes to Marion” celebration on Saturday, October 6th.

Ernest T. Bass, Floyd the Barber, Howard Spraig, Otis Campbell, and Charlene Darling will be strolling Main Street, visiting folks, posing for pictures, and cutting up as “America’s Coolest Hometown” brings small town country living back in fashion.

“We are so excited to have these fine actors join in the fun,” said Marion mayor David Helms.  “Having folks that look and act like the original characters will add to the festivities.”

In addition to the cast of characters, Marion will host their first-ever Vintage Market on Broad Street, with vintage and handmade vendors, antique tractors, live bluegrass music, look-alike and old-fashioned dress contests, “Opie’s Corner” kids’ activities, nostalgic games and a Mayberry trivia contest from 10 until 5, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County and Past Time Antique Emporium of Marion.

That evening at 7, host Tim White welcomes Mayberry to the stage of the historic Lincoln Theater for a live taping of “The Official Television Series of Virginia – Song of the Mountains”.  Featured artists include Rodney Dillard and the Dillards (“The Darlings”), Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling), the Mayberry Deputy (David Browning), and The VW Boys.  Tickets to the concert are available by calling the Lincoln at (276) 783-6092 or online at www.thelincoln.org.
